Michael French is a photographer best known for his atmospheric landscapes and travel shots, portraiture, fashion, lifestyle and commercial work.

His photographs are imbued with a sense of honesty, curiosity and romance; whether contemplating the inherent beauty of nature or exploring the visual tension between objects, personalities and places.

Living firstly in the tropics of far north Queensland, then the beaches of Noosa before settling in Sydney it’s easy to see how exploring those environments underscores his command of expansive locations and working with natural light. French’s diverse client list is testament to his ability to realise a commercial brief and includes: The Woolmark Company, Condé Nast Traveller, Destination NSW, David Jones, Channel Ten, VANS, Priceline, AMP, MidCity, Oroton, Endota and Blackmores.

He is currently working on his second solo exhibition, a series of quiet landscapes shot on medium format film. These photographs will be hand printed using the first photographic printing technique devised in 1834, a salt printing process. The salt used to develop (create) each individual image has been collected by Michael from the specific site of the photograph.

Michael French is currently based in Sydney.
