Anita Lee is an experienced director, who draws inspiration from shared human experience to create honest and heartfelt films and commercials.
She is known for her emotive approach to storytelling which draws on nuanced and authentic performances from talent. Her approach is deeply collaborative – she believes firmly that the relationships she fosters with talent, crew and clients are just as important as the creation of the work.
Before graduating from AFTRS in directing, Anita studied art and design at the College of Fine Arts which has ingrained in her practice a love for stylised storyworlds and visually poetic imagery. As an Australian-born Chinese female director, she is also passionate about telling diverse stories and is committed to furthering more cultural representation on screen.
Anita has directed projects for brands including Uniqlo, Qantas, Travelodge Hotels, CGU Insurance, Dulux, TAL Insurance, Macquarie University and SBS. She is also part of creative duo Brosis Films, which she began with her cinematographer brother.
Anita’s debut short film Only One – funded by Screen NSW and Metro Screen – screened at the Palm Springs International Shortfest, Rhode Island Film Festival, St Louis Film Festival and Miami Short Film Festival. Her second short film Here is Now, which she both wrote and directed, premiered at the For Film’s Sake Festival (Australia).
