Sinéad McDevitt is a designer-turned-director, whose work features a strong emphasis on visual storytelling. With clear creative vision, meticulous attention to detail and a distinctive minimalist aesthetic, she seeks to tell stories that light a spark, warm the heart, and encourage the fingers to tap play again.

Her award-winning background in graphic design and art direction informs her film and commercial work. From colour palette and frame composition, to lighting, VFX and production design, each element is expertly designed and curated to fit the brief in close collaboration with the team.

Working across both narrative and nonfiction, Sinéad combines commercial work with her personal film projects. She has directed commercials for Australian brands such as Rebel and AV Jennings, written and directed a number of award-winning short films and music videos, and hosted live onstage at the Opera House for TEDxSydney two years in a row.

Sinéad’s recent LGBTQ+ music video The Ocean – commissioned by Irish artist Wallis Bird and produced by Oscar-nominated production company Finch – has received multiple awards as well as official selections on the international film festival circuit. Featuring a stunning combination of contemporary dance and VFX, The Ocean was recently selected to feature at M&C Saatchi London as part of The Shiny Awards (UK, 2019).

Her short film How to Fall in Love with a Stranger, commissioned by TEDxSydney and published by The Guardian and The Sydney Morning Herald, also featured on live TV and radio nationwide. Following the success of the film, Sinéad developed a new documentary format The Love Experiment in partnership with Sydney-based production company Media Stockade. In 2019, the format was awarded second place at MIPFormats International Pitching Competition in Cannes, following a competitive onstage pitch against other creative teams from around the world.

Sinéad also acted as Fast Ideas Curator and Host for TEDxSydney for a number of years. Her role was to develop and co-write 16 verbal pitches – each designed to win the audience over in 30 seconds flat from the stage. During this time, she was also commissioned to create TEDxSydney’s annual film program, which toured global TEDx events as ‘Best in Class’ and won multiple awards for the filmmaking teams including Vimeo Staff Picks, Shots and AEAF awards. TED US also commissioned Sinéad in 2018 to create their first-ever original film program for the annual TED event in Vancouver. Collaborating with leading filmmaking teams and creatives around the world, including Mother (London) and Special Guest (NYC), the short films premiered live onstage in April 2018 with
a global reach of over 15M+ viewers.

Other notable work includes her short film Ballsy, which screened on the international film festival circuit, with nominations for Best Documentary at Sheffield Doc/Fest, the Academy-accredited Flickerfest and Fastnet Film Festival. Sinéad also won the prestigious KB Myer Award for her multiplatform series The Alchemy Project, which went on to be selected for the digital marketplace at Sheffield Doc/Fest.

Sinéad is currently developing her first screenplay – a musical dramedy called Edie, whose original treatment placed in the top five finalists for the ABC’s Girls series.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, Sinead is currently based in Sydney.
